Northern Data Plans to Acquire New HPC Data Center in Oklahoma

Northern Data, a multinational company seeking to bring radical change through unprecedented innovation and ideas in high-performance computing (HPC), is rapidly advancing its expansion efforts. In a recent press release, the Germany-based corporation has announced an upcoming partnership with the State of Oklahoma in its latest endeavor. Northern Data and Oklahoma will leverage their collaboration to realize the full potential of high-performance computing and unlock new opportunities across all sectors and industries in the future.

This association is a part of Northern Data’s global expansion strategy, wherein Northern Data plans to deploy more than 100K ASIC systems in North America by the end of 2022. Its plans were also outlined in an earlier Strategy Presentation published by the company towards the end of September 2021.

Acquisition of a Data Center

Furthermore, the collaboration resulted in the Northern Data AG entering into final negotiations regarding the acquisition of a data center site with Oklahoma supplying up to 250 MW of power, whose location was not yet revealed. Northern Data aims to achieve this target in several phases: 10 MW by Q2’22, then 50 MW in Q4’22, and ultimately reach the targeted total of 250 megawatts by the end of 2024, which is also their tentative date of completing the development of the buildings on the site. For development, the company plans to use fast and efficient modular building designs.

The transaction is still undergoing certain due diligence, and further details about the transaction will be publicly published after the completion of the process.

A Crucial Partnership

The partnership will also act as the lifeblood of Northern Data’s vision and strategy of building high-quality data center infrastructure for Blockchain and consequently leading towards encompassing Cloud Compute Services in the future.

Northern Data had already become a significant name globally in terms of GPU and ASIC-based solutions by utilizing revolutionary concepts of designing and operating efficient, green HPC infrastructures. In the previous year, Northern Data has reportedly mined at least 20,000 green ETH and 470 BTC through its existing data centers.

It operates with a dynamic workforce of over 180 people in seven different countries in the areas of custom, large-scale data centers, cutting-edge hardware, and self-developed software for numerous HPC applications. The segments include bitcoin mining, blockchain technology, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, IoT, and graphics rendering. Moreover, Northern Data is already operating ten data centers globally and has expansion plans for Europe, Canada, and the United States of America.
